Holders Esperance, Morocco's Wydad reach African Champions League final

Holders Esperance of Tunisia and Morocco's Wydad Casablanca set up a mouthwatering African Champions League final after overcoming TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively on Saturday.

Adopting a firm defensive strategy, Esperance held DR Congo giants and five-time winners Mazembe to a 0-0 draw at the latter's fortress in Lubumbashi to record a 1-0 aggregate win and reach the final for the second consecutive season.

Esperance keeper Moez Ben Cherifia pulled off a string of impressive saves to keep the hosts at bay and protest the team's slender first-leg advantage.

It was the same story for Wydad, who also managed to survive some attempts from South Africa's Sundowns in Pretoria to go through with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Esperance and Wydad will meet in the final first-leg on 24 May in Morocco, with the return taking place in Rades on 31 May.

Wydad are eyeing their third Champions League crown while Esperance are seeking to lift the trophy for the second season running and fourth time in their history.
