Egypt's culture ministry to open Ramadan programme with orchestra concert

The Cairo Opera House concert will see a repertoire of traditional and patriotic songs performed


Egypt’s culture ministry, under the helm of minister Ines Abdel-Dayem, will open their special Ramadan programme on Sunday with a free concert by an orchestra for military music at Cairo Opera House.

The minister and the house's head Magdi Saber are attending the concert, which will be conducted by Magdy Abdel-Aaty and Sami Mosad Shehata.

The performance will see a repertoire of traditional and patriotic songs, including Ahla Balad, Farhet El-Nasr, Toof W-Shoof, Ya Msafer Wahdak, Lahn El-Kholoud and many others.

The Ramadan programme features a number of Egyptian and Arab performers, including Medhat Saleh (14 May), Tania Saleh (17 May), Ali El-Helbawy (20 May), Dina El-Wedidi (21 May), Khaled Selim (23 May), Nesma Mahgoub (24 May), and Tunisian Ghalia Ben Ali (27 May).

Many Islamic chanting performances are also included, like El-Hadra (13 May), Syria's Al-Akhiwa (15 May), Morocco's Jwad AL-Shary (16 May), Aida El-Ayoubi (18 May), Nour El-Nabi (22 May) and Yassin El-Tohamy (25 May).

The Arab Music Institute is hosting some of the events, including Ihab Yunis (16 May) and Nouran Abou Taleb (17 May), while El-Hanager Theater will host El-Leila El-Kebeira puppet show.

There will also be events at the Alexandria andDamanhour opera houses.
