Held within the ongoing Gouna Film Festival, the discussion tackled the role of new platforms versus traditional distribution models

On 24 September, the CineGouna Bridge held a panel discussion titled ‘The State of Film Distribution’ presented by Film Independent and the US Embassy in Egypt, moderated by the Lebanese producer Myriam Sassine with panelists Missy Laney, Director of Development at Adult Swim, Jordana Meade, Director of Distribution at ITVS, Rebecca Sosa and film executive and consultant.

“What is very unique about my company is that we are focused on diversity, we want to hear stories from underserved backgrounds from underserved filmmakers and storytellers. We’re specifically seeking out under-heard and underserved storytellers from their unique perspective.” Jordan Meade said.

The panelists discussed the role of new platforms versus traditional distribution models. They agreed that the various number of mediums expanded the limits of viewership and access to different kinds of films, highlighting the fact that filmmakers should be constantly aware of their target audience and choose their preferred platforms accordingly.

The Gouna Film Festival opened on 19 September and continues until 27 September.
