Egypt implements 6,200 projects for EGP 490 bln: Planning ministry

Egypt’s Ministry of Planning, Monitoring, and Administrative Reform announced that 6,200 projects have been implemented in various sectors during fiscal year (FY) 2018-19.

The projects, costing EGP 490 billion, include 32 national mega projects worth a total of EGP 54 billion, and 202 projects under the “Dignified Life” social protection programme with a total of EGP 944 million.

They also include 34 projects for the development of Upper Egypt, costing EGP 222 million, according to the quarterly report released by the Construction Phase Outcomes for FY 2018-19 on Saturday.

The report added that 4,400 local development programme projects were finalised for EGP 10.8 billion, clarifying that the planning ministry designed the first database to track the performance of government sectors as part of the local planning system development.

It stated that 1,254 road network projects were implemented for more than EGP 3 billion in 26 governorates, in addition to 392 projects in security, amortisation, and the traffic sector for EGP 1.5 billion, and 78 projects in the bridges and tunnels sector in 16 governorates for EGP 1.7 billion.

In addition, 926 projects were implemented to boost and extend electricity networks for EGP 1.2 billion, while 775 projects were finished with the aim of boosting local units’ needs for EGP 1.3 billion. Some 981 projects were implemented to improve the environment for a total of EGP 2.1 billion.

As far as the national mega projects are concerned, the report said that fish farms cost EGP 12.8 billion; Damietta Furniture city EGP 2.7 billion; Beni Sweif cement plants complex -- with 12 tons of annual production -- EGP 1.6 billion; bridges and roads projects EGP 1.4 billion; the Galala development projects EGP 325 billion.

In the oil and mining resources sectors, the report said that 19 projects cost EGP 277 billion, and 244 projects in electricity and renewable energy were built for EGP 76 billion.

Some 382 projects were implemented for more than EGP 40 billion for housing services development, 44 projects in the transportation sector for EGP 16.7 billion, in addition to 263 projects for water resources and irrigation improvement for EGP 2.4 billion.

Moreover, 569 projects with a total of EGP 3.6 billion were accomplished, while nine projects for higher education improvement cost EGP 123 million, and 37 projects in the healthcare sector were finalised for a total of EGP 2.2 billion.

According to the report, 2,585 projects were implemented in Upper Egypt with a total cost of EGP 42.3 billion.
