Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has renewed his country's repudiation of Turkey's advance into Syria during talks with Jordan’s KingKing Abdullah II in Cairo on Thursday.

Turkey pressed on with a military offensive against Kurdish fighters in northeast Syria for a second day on Thursday, bombing towns from the air and forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. The move came a few days after US troops withdrew from the area.

El-Sisi affirmed "Egypt's rejection of Turkey's aggression on Syria's sovereignty and territory which is contrary to the rules of international law and international legitimacy," Egyptian presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said.

El-Sisi warned of the "negative repercussions on unity and territorial safety of Syria," the spokesman added.

The Arab League said it would hold an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss the "Turkish aggression" on Syrian territory following a call by Egypt for the 22-state body to meet over the matter.
