Jordan has given all foreign workers until 21 November to renew expired work permits or issue new ones

Egypt has called on Egyptian nationals working in Jordan to meet a deadline set by the Jordanian authorities for issuing or renewing work permits.

Jordan has given all foreign workers until 21 November to renew expired work permits or issue new ones, offering incentives of discounted fees.

These include between 50-80 percent exemptions on fees to issue or renew permits for some businesses for the five previous years.

Egypt's Manpower Minister Mohamed Saafan is calling on Egyptian nationals working in Jordan to benefit from the exemptions, his ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Those whose permits expired more than three months ago, and those who will not move to abide by the regulations during the period, will be repatriated from the country, the ministry said.

Around 1 million Egyptians are estimated to live in Jordan, according to data from 2016 published by Egypt's official statistics agency CAPMAS.
