Egypt's Sisi invites Putin to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of El-Dabaa nuclear power plant
Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi invited RussianPresident Vladimir Putin on Wednesday to visit Egypt to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the under-construction El-Dabaanuclear power plant.
This came during the meeting of the two leaders' on Wednesday morning ahead of the opening of the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia.
The summit is co-chaired by President Putin and President El-Sisi, who holds the presidency of the African Union (AU) for 2019.
In 2015, Egypt and Russia signedthe first Egyptian nuclear plant dealby which El-Dabaa nuclear power plant will be built inwill be built near the town of El-Alamein on Egypt’s northern coast.
El-Dabaa nuclear plant's first reactor, out of four VVER-1200 reactors, is set to be put into operation in 2026, accoring to TASS, while construction works are expected to be completed in 2029.
According to TASS news agency, President Putin is also expected tosign an agreement with President El-Sisi to launch a Russian industrial zone in Egypt.
