Alaa Mubarak, the eldest son of Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak, tweeted his 78-year-old mother and former first lady Suzanne Mubarak is in the hospital, without revealing further details.

The former first lady's news was unveiled when one of Alaa Mubarak's followers on Twitter asked him about his mother's health late Wednesday. Alaa responded by saying "she is still in intensive care and things will be fine."

According to local news reports, Alaa announced his mother had undergone surgery earlier this month, without disclosing any further information.

Suzanne Mubarak is the wife of Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak who was ousted on 11 February 2011 after 18 days of mass protests across the country.
