Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi says Cairo is ready to send medical and humanitarian assistance to the East African nation after recent flooding
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has pledged to offer assistance to Djibouti days after flash flooding hit the East African nation, the Egyptian presidency spokesman said.
A quarter-million people have been affected by the downpours in the country in recent days, according to the United Nations, with the number expected to grow as heavy rains are forecast through the end of the month.
El-Sisi called his Djiboutian counterpart, Ismail Omar Guelleh, early Wednesday to stress Egypt's support to the country during these difficult circumstances, spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
El-Sisi expressed Egypt's readiness to offer medical and humanitarian aid to support Djibouti's ongoing efforts in this regard, the statement added.
During the telephone conversation, the pair agreed to work to boost mutual cooperation ties between the two countries, including trade and investment ties.
El-Sisi said Egypt looks to work with Djibouti on issues related to security, stability and development in the African continent, in light of Egypt's current presidency of the 55-nation African Union (AU).
