Egypt's Sisi marks National Police Day with visit to Police Academy

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday marked the 68th annual National Police Day, which falls on 25 January.

The Egyptian president laid a wreath on the tomb for martyrs from the police forces at the Police Academy in New Cairo.

El-Sisi was accompanied by Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik.

The president also headed a meeting of the Supreme Council of Police members, including Tawfik.

He later attended a celebration at the Police Academy.

The president honoured families of a number of police martyrs during the celebration.

He also conferred the Order of Excellence, first and third classes, on several police officials.

The orders were awarded to Assistant Interior Minister for Public Security Sector Alaa El-Din Selim, Aswan Security Chief Hisham Farouk, Gharbiya Security Chief Maged Ragheb Nashed, and Human Rights General Administration Official Manar Mokhtar, among others.

The president also conferred the Order of Excellence, third class, on two policemen.

The celebration was attended by Tawfik, the House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, DefenceMinister Mohamed Zaki, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed El-Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II.
