Egypt is set to witness a "peak of unstable weather" on the first day of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, an Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) official said.

Mahmoud Shahin, director of the analysis department at the EMA, said the country will be hit with the beginning of dust-laden winds on Wednesday, with the peak forecast to take place on Friday -- the first day of Ramadan.

Shahin urged Egyptians suffering from respiratory diseases to avoid exposure to air or sunlight and to stay at home.

He said that heat will not be felt due to a decline in humidity levels if people aren’t exposed directly to sunlight.

Temperatures will continue to rise until mid-week, Shahin said.

The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth in the Islamic calendar, the month in which the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohamed.

More than a billion Muslims around the world abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk during Ramadan as part of the Islamic fasting observation.

The Islamic world is set to see a Ramadan that is unprecedented, as restrictions pushed by the coronavirus pandemic is expected to take a toll on the month’s worship spirit.
