Contestants must submit songs with a nationalist spirit prior to the 1 August deadline
The culture ministry’s Cultural Production Sector, headed by Khaled Galal, has launched a music competition titled "I Am an Egyptian."
Participants are required to submit a maximum of two original songs, between 4 and 10 minutes long, which have a nationalistic spirit.
The songs should not have been presented on at any platform prior to the announcement of the competition's results and should not be submitted to any other contest.
The competition is open to anyone with Egyptian nationality who is aged between 18 and 45.
The contestants will compete in four categories: composition, singing, lyrics and music arrangement (or orchestration).
The final song should be sent in MP3 format to [email protected] before 1 August.
Five winners will receive monetary prizes and their songs will be uploaded to the ministry’s YouTube channel.
The first prize is EGP 20,000, the second EGP 15,000, the third EGP 10,000, the fourth EGP 7,000, and the fifth EGP 5,000.
This is the third music competition run by the Cultural Production Sector.
In the previous two, the jury members included renowned names from Egypt's music and literary field: poet and lyricist Awad Badawi, musician Hany Shenouda, singer Mohamed El Helw, composers Rageh Daoud and Amr Mosafa, poet Tamer Hussein, and artist May Farouk.
