Arsenal coach Arteta has played with Elneny and knows his strengths and weaknesses

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta heaped praise on his Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, stressing that his future with the Gunners remains unclear.

"Well, I know Mo really well. I played with him, so I know what he can be and I know his strengths and weaknesses really well," Arteta told the club's official website on Thursday.

" He’s a really positive character to have around and he has some really good qualities as well and like anybody else, in the moment that he is with us, he will be given all our support and the best possible environment for them to perform as high as they can."

"We don’t know. The sixth of October is still too far, as I said. It’s pretty unpredictable to know what’s going to happen."

The defensive midfielder returned to the Gunners this summer after spending the last season on loan at Turkish side Besiktas.

He played in his side's 4-1 win over MK Dons in a friendly on Tuesday, scoring an impressive goal during the game.

Several reports linked him with Turkish sides Galatasaray and Trabzonspor, especially after Arsenal reportedly informing him that he does not feature in the club's future plans.

Elneny has been at Arsenal since 2016 but has failed to establish himself at the Emirates and has fallen out of favour, especially during the tenure of coach Unai Emery.
