Giza Plateau official denies rumours two highways are under construction at archaeological site
Ashraf Mohieddin, director-general of the Giza Plateau, refuted rumours two highways are being constructed on the archaeologically significant site of the Giza Plateau.
The Giza Plateau Development Project was completed in 2019 and will be inaugurated in 2021.
Mohieddin pointed out that the Supreme Council of Antiquities would not allow any construction work to endanger ancient monuments, stating that in accordance with the stipulations of the development project, environmentally friendly electric buses and golf carts will be devoted to the task of transporting visitors, and that tourist buses will be banned from entering the archaeological site to preserve the environment and ancient monuments.
He added that there are no ongoing construction works at the archeological site. Construction outside the archaeological site is still in its preliminary stage, he added.
Photos of a road around the site were circulated in the news. Mohieddin explained the road is located outside the archaeological site and its construction was supervised by the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
