66.2% of workers in Egypt are on permanent contracts: CAPMAS

When it comes to medical insurance, 39.3 percent only of workers in Egypt have medical insurance


Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Tuesday that 66.2 percent of workers in Egypt are on permanent contracts.

In a statement issued on the occasion of World Decent Work Day, CAPMAS stated that the workforce in Egypt above 15 years old contributed nearly 42.2 percent to the country's economic activities in year 2019.

When it comes to permanent contracts, CAPMAS said that 66.2 percent of the workers in Egypt have permanent contracts.

98.3 percent of workers in the public sector are on permanent contract, followed by 95 percent of the workers in state-owned companies, while only 23.9 percent of the workers in the private sector have permanent contracts.

41.2 percent of workers in Egypt work under no legal contracts.

99 percent of workers in the government sector work under legal contract, followed by 96.3 percent of workers in the public sector and state-owned companies, while only 29.3 percent of workers in the private sector workunder legal contract.

When it comes to social insurance, 45.2 percent of workers had in social insurance in 2019.

97 percent of the workers in the government sector have social insurance, followed by 91.7 percent in the public sector and state-owned companies, and only 9.8 percent in the private sector.

When it comes to medical insurance, 39.3 percent only of workers in Egypt have medical insurance.

96.6 percent of workers in the government sector have medical insurance, compared to 90.5 percent in the public sector and state-owned companies and 25.7 percent in the private sector.

The average working hours in Egypt per week are 46.3 hours.

The highest average working hours per week were recorded in the private sector (50.6 hours), followed by the public sector and state-owned companies (45 hours) then the government sector (41.7 hours).

The highest average working hours per week were recorded in food services (52.7 hours) followed by retail (51.6 hours), while the lowest average working hours were recorded in education (39.8 hours).
