The Egyptian prosecution ordered on Sunday the four-day detention of a man charged with the premeditated murder of a Sudanese child in Giza’s 6 October neighbourhood over a dispute with the child’s father.

According to an official statement, the defendant confessed that he murdered the child in retaliation over a financial dispute with the child’s father.

Prior to the murder, the suspect and the victim’s father had a physical altercation during which the father inflicted a knife would on the suspect’s wrist, the prosecution said.

In retaliation, the suspect later stabbed the child to death after he was unable to get to the father for revenge.

The prosecution’s statement stressed that all legal measures are taken to pursue justice in cases of assault no matter the citizenship status of those involved.

The prosecution warned against attempts by some to propagate rumours that refugees and foreigners do not enjoy their full rights inside the country.
