Egypt's Holding Company for Water andWastewater (HCWW)launched the service of inquiring about and paying water bills online on itswebsite, the company stated on Thursday.

People can register their phone number, email, and governorate on the company's website to pay their water bills online.

Head of the company Mamdouh Raslan said the service covers 11 governorates in the first phase, with the remaining governorates to follow shortly.

The governorates covered in the first phase are Cairo, Giza, Menoufiya, Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sohag, Alexandria, the Red Sea, Matrouh, Sinai, and Beni Suef, the statement added.

The move is meant to ease all e-payment channels that allow customers to receive services safely and smoothly as per the directives of the Ministry of Housing, Raslan added.

The step is part of a broader government push to promote e-payment systems and reduce reliance on cash.

As the country rolls into the digitisation of all government services countrywide, a plethora of public services can be paid online now, including electricity and natural gas bills.

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said that Egypt has a strong digitalisation potential as the country works to push forward its digital transformation and offer more electronic government services.
