Egyptian FM, Arab parliament speaker discuss bolstering joint Arab mechanism in combating terrorism

Shoukry said the cooperation between the Egyptian parliament and the Arab Parliament will allow further exchange of expertise related to parliamentary work


Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Arab Parliament speaker Adel Abdul-Rahman Al-Asoumi discussed the role of the legislative body in bolstering joint Arab mechanisms to consolidate peace and security in the region and fight terrorism and extremism.

According to a statement by the foreign ministry, Shoukry and Al-Asoumi discussed the role of the Arab League’s legislative body in facing attempts to threaten the unity and stability of the Arab countries and their national institutions.

Shoukry said the cooperation with the Egyptian House of Representatives and the country’s newly-elected Senate will allow further exchange of expertise related to parliamentary work, a foreign ministry statement read.

They also reviewed the most prominent challenges and issues facing the region, the statement read.

During the meeting, Shoukry congratulated Al-Asoumi for assuming the post, wishing him success in his new mission.

The Bahraini official assumed the post last month for a two-year term, vowing to address the causes of the Arab states in international forums and at all levels through effective parliamentary diplomacy.
