Ahly have signed the 23-year-old defender from Wadi Degla on a five-year-contract to boost their injury-hit backline

Ahmed “Beckham” Ramadan, who joined Ahly on Monday, tested positive for the Coronavirus on Tuesday, becoming the Reds’ sixth infected player.

Ahly Negotiations Director Amir Tawfik revealed yesterday during the deal’s announcement that the player underwent a PCR test and will be able to join the team’s trainings on Tuesday as soon as the results come back negative.

Ahly have signed the 23-year-old defender from Wadi Degla on a five-year-contract to boost their injury-hit backline; Beckham is returning to his club from childhood for an undisclosed fee after spending the past three years with Cairo neighbours Wadi Degla.

Beckham, a natural central defender who can also be deployed as a right back, will be Ahly’s second signing in defence after the Moroccan Badr Benoun, as the Reds are aiming to bolster their defence as part of their plan for the new season to work on the team’s weak points.

Beckham started his football career in Ahly’s U-23 team before joining Haras El-Hodoud in August 2015 on a one-year loan. After that, he joined Wadi Degla on loan in July 2018 before the sell clause was activated in January 2019 to officially transfer him to Wadi Degla on a free contract.

He was a key member of Egypt's U-23 team that won the 2019 U-23 African Cup of Nations in Cairo and is set to play in next year's Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ramadan will be the sixth infected player with the Coronavirus after fellow players Saleh Gomaa, Walid Soliman, Mahmoud “Kahraba” Abdel-Moneim, Mohamed Sherif, and Ahmed Yassir Ryan also testing positive for the virus.

Ahly are scheduled to face arch-rivals Zamalek on Friday in the African Champions League final.
