The player left the hotel with two fans and his whereabouts are unknown since then, the team's director said.
Ceramica Cleopatra FC announced the team's newly signed forward Mido Gaber has disappeared from a New Cairo hotel where they were holding a closed preparatory camp for the new Egyptian Premier League season.
"After the training was over, Gaber disappeared," Ceramica Cleopatra football director Moataz El-Battawi told a television programme late on Wednesday.
"Mido found his room card was not working. A hotel official went to repair it, but the receptionist asked the player to head to the reception to activate the card," the Ceramica Cleopatra football director said.
"Two people had asked to take photos with the player then he left the hotel with them and since then Gaber's mobile has been turned off, but all his belongings are still in the hotel.
"We don't know if he was kidnapped so we filed a police report," he added.
A security source quoted by the state-run MENA news agency refuted reports that the player had been kidnapped, confirming Gaber left the hotel with two people willingly.
Ceramica Cleopatra FC qualified for the Egyptian Premier League last month for the first time ever.
They have so far landed 14 players, including several footballers who played for Cairo's famed duo Ahly and Zamalek, such as playmaker Mohamed Ibrahim and winger Mido Gaber.
The club, which was established in 2006, sealed promotion to the top flight on the final day of last season.
