The Pharaohs striker Kouka was the third national team player to contract COVID-19 after Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s El-neny while on international duty last month
Egypt striker Ahmed Hassan Kouka will remain on the sidelines until the beginning of the new year as he still suffers from coronavirus complications, Greek club Olympiacos announced on Friday.
“PAE Olympiakos announces that our two football players Ahmed Hassan and Bruno Felipe are absent from the match obligations and training of our team, because they presented some complications due to the recent infection by covid-19,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.
Kouka was the third national team player to be infected with COVID-19 after Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Mohamed El-neny while on international duty last month.
The 27-year old attacker tested positive directly after appearing in the 3-1 away win against Togo in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations' qualifiers on 15 November.
“Their current situation of both players is very good. For precautionary reasons, mainly, they are monitored by the medical staff of Olympiacos and undergo special examinations. Their return to full competitive activity is expected at the beginning of the year,” the Olympiacos statement added.
Kouka, who made a superb start of the season with Olympiacos after netting five goals and providing two assists in 10 matches, missed four matches with the Greek team since picking the virus; including two in the UEFA Champions League.
