Walid Soliman is confident Ahly can replicate their huge success next season

Ahly winger Walid Soliman on Tuesday described the team's treble-winning season as historic, saying such success gave the current crop a huge morale boost that will help the team over the coming 10 years.

After securing the Egyptian Premier League title for the 42nd time and the fifth in a row, the Red Devils won the African Champions League for the first time since 2013 after defeating Zamalek 2-1 on 27 November before clinching the Egypt Cup at the expense of Talae El-Geish one week later.

The hat-trick of triumphs marked Ahly's third treble in history following the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons.

Soliman, who was instrumental in Ahly's triumphant campaign in the domestic league, missed the Champions League and the Egypt Cup final after testing positive for COVID-19.

"It was so difficult for me to miss the two finals," Soliman told an Egyptian Radio station.

"The Champions League title is very precious for the team especially that we haven't won it since 2013. The Egypt Cup is also an important title. Our target is to win the African Super Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup.

"This generation realized a historic achievement and they gained a great dose of confidence that would help them during the coming 10 years."

The 36-year-old said that he expects Ahly to face a tougher mission next season but that he is confident they can replicate their success.

"The competition in the domestic league will be very tough as many clubs have made good signings during the transfer window," Soliman added.

"But we will the domestic league; It is so difficult for Ahly to lose titles. We have a motivation that keeps us apart from other sides."
