Ahly winger Hussein El-Shahat has admitted that he’s not performing well lately, especially during the African Champions League final against rivals Zamalek.

El-Shahat faced a wave of criticism from Ahly fans after he missed many easy scoring chances during the team's victorious game against Zamalek. The criticism escalated to insults to which El-Shahat reacted on his official Facebook account, refusing personal and family insults despite his performance on the field.

Still, El-Shahat had the courage to reveal his dissatisfaction with his form during an interview with a local TV channel, saying: “I’m not satisfied with my performance in the latest period. I believe that it’s not the same Hussein El-Shahat who fought to wear Ahly’s shirt.”

“I need to forget the Champions League final, not only because of the chances I’ve wasted, but for all that I made in the match,” said El-Shahat.

The 29-year-old winger justified his most notable miss during the latest derby, as he thought Ahly full back Ali Maaloul would shoot towards the goal, not cross the ball to him, so he tried to turn it to the empty net quickly, which resulted in the ball hitting the post before the Whites defender turned it to a corner kick.

“I was shocked for a moment, but I managed to continue the game without losing my concentration,” El-Shahat explained.

Ahly's winger revealed that he cried after teammate Mohamed “Afsha” Magdi's goal gave the Reds the victory.

“The current generation playing for Ahly is closely related to each other and everyone loves the best to his colleagues, and this is the main reason for clinching the Champions League,” he concluded.
