Egypt to ease restrictions on travel to and from Libya

Egypt has repeatedly warned citizens against travelling to Libya since 2015

Egypt is set to ease travel restrictions to and from Libya, a statement by the Libyan Embassy in Cairo read on Wednesday.

Egypt will abolish prior security approval for Egyptian men and their children travelling to Libya, said the chargé d'affairs of the Libyan Embassy in Egypt, Tariq Al-Hawaij.

Restrictions will not apply to Egyptians residing in Libya and those to whom the family reunification programme applies, he added.

Egypt will also review measures to “facilitate entry visas for Libyans,” Al-Hawaij said.

Egypt has repeatedly warned citizens against travelling to Libya since the Islamic State terrorist group beheaded 20 Coptic Egyptian workers in February 2015, a shocking incident that came amid deteriorating security conditions in the war-torn country.
