Short films will become available to be viewed online between 22 and 24 January

The 7th edition of Dublin Arabic Film Festival (DAFF) will screen short films online between 22 and 24 January.

Screenings are part of the festival's activities which are held annually in December. This year, the whole festival was moved online with its core screenings taking place between 11 and 13 December 2020.

The festival however added a short films segment which is yet to be made available online through the DAFF's website.

The new segment titled ‘The Jim Sheridan International Short Film Competition’ aims to inspire young filmmakers globally.

The screenings will include films with a duration no longer than 20 minutes, and will explore the themes of "Arabic culture, human rights, injustices, immigrant life, displacement, or any of which help in creating awareness of the plight of underprivileged women and girls," the festival's website reveals.

The organisers add that "the overall Short Film Competition winner will win a one-on-one virtual mentoring session with Jim Sheridan and will automatically qualify to screen their work at the Waterford Film Festival in 2021."

The 7th Dublin Arabic Film Festival takes place annually across the Irish capital city. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival's 7th edition has been moved online.
