Egyptian winger Warda rejoins former Greek club PAOK

Warda had three loan stints out of PAOK; two at Atromitos and one at Larissa amid several reported disputes with PAOK’s management or coaches at different times


Egyptian winger Amr Warda has rejoined former club PAOK from Greek rivals Volos after signing a contract that lasts until June 2022, PAOK announced via its official website late on Tuesday.



“After a five-month spell at Volos, Warda returns to the Toumba and is immediately available for selection to the coaching staff,” read the statement on PAOK’s official website.



The 27-year-old, who usually courts controversy because of his off-field disciplinary problems, left PAOK last summer to join Volos on a free transfer before the start of the season on a one-year contract.



“The Egyptian midfielder has scored two goals and served up one assist in 10 matches for the Magnesia club, which made him one of the club’s key players, he is ready to provide PAOK with extra options in midfield with his quality. Welcome Amr,” the PAOK statement added.



The former Ahly player, who has made 30 international appearances so far, began his overseas career on August 2015 when he signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Greek club Panetolikos, on a free transfer from the Cairo giants.



Warda’s European football career has not been a stable one, with repeated accusations of him lacking commitment.



In the summer of 2017, around seven months after he joined PAOK, he moved to Feirense but the Portuguese side annulled the loan agreement just three days later, with local reports saying that at the time that he had harassed the wives of two of his teammates.



Warda had three loan stents out of PAOK; two at Atromitos and one at Larissa amid several reported disputes with PAOK’s management and coaches at different times.



Warda was a member of the Egyptian national team which played in the 2018 World Cup and in the 2019 African Cup of Nations.



He was excluded from Egypt's camp at the Nations Cup for disciplinary reasons, after accusations of his inappropriate behavior on social media. He was pardoned at the time by the football association, reportedly after pressure from his teammates and made a public apology, but Egypt was eliminated from the prestigious tournament in the round of 16.



PAOK currently lie third at the Greek league table with 28 points from 13 matches making them seven points behind leaders Olympiacos.
