Bahraini born actress May Calamawy will join the cast of Moon Night, the Marvel Studios Disney Plus series, the Hollywood reporter revealed.

Born in 1986 in Bahrain, Calamawy is known for Ramy (2019), The Long Road Home (2017) and The Brave (2017).

The Moon Night stars Oscar Isaac, a Guatemalan-American actor best known for his roles in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and and in X-Men: Apocalypse, will play the protagonist Moon Knight known as Marc Spector, an ex-Marine turned mercenary, CIA agent and boxer.

In the upcoming six-episode series, the main character becomes the human avatar whose life is saved by the Ancient Egyptian Moon God Khonshu.

One of the most successful characters of Marvel Studios, Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin in the 1970s.

Egyptian scriptwriter and director Diab's directorial debut was 'Cairo 6,7,8' (2010) which was released weeks prior to the Egyptian revolution (2011). It won a Silver Hugo for Best Feature Film and Best International Feature at the Chicago International Film Festival 2011. Diab's important breakthrough came with 'Clash' (Eshtebak, 2016) which he directed and co-wrote together with Khaled Diab. The drama which plot takes place during the Egyptian Revolution, was Egypt's submission in the Oscars' foreign-language film category in 2017. Despite the film’s exclusion from the final list of nominees, Diab still gained much recognition for his work.
