Egypt detects 589 new coronavirus cases, 48 fatalities on Friday

Egypt has passed the peak of the second coronavirus wave announced by the health ministry late in November, Presidential Health Advisor Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din said


Egypt reported 589 new coronavirus cases on Friday as daily infections continue to drop in the country.

The new cases bring the total infections since the outbreak of the pandemic last year to 164,871.

According to an official statement, the health ministry reported 48 new fatalities, bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 9,217.

The statement said that 360 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 128,800.

Egypt has passed the peak of the second coronavirus wave announced by the health ministry late in November, as the number of new cases decreased from more than 1,000 in recent weeks, down to around 500, according toPresidential Health Advisor Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din.
