After losing to Bayern Munich in the semifinal of the FIFA Club World Cup, Ahly players have promised the team’s supporters to claim the bronze medal when they face Palmeiras of Brazil on Thursday.
A double by towering striker Robert Lewandowski sent Bayern Munich to the final against Tigres UANL of Mexico, while the African champions will play against Brazilian side Palmeiras in the 3rd place decider.
“We did our best against Bayern but we still have another chance in the Club World Cup in the 3rd place game,” Ahly forward Taher Mohamed Taher told a television programme after the game.
“We will try to avoid our mistakes in the coming games to achieve a medal,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ahly’s winger Mahmoud "Kahraba" Abdel Moneim stressed that they will exert more effort against Tigres.
“We did our best during the game against the European champions but we failed to score a goal.
“We will win a medal to present it to Ahly fans,” the Ahly winger added.
The African champions started their mission in the FIFA Club World Cup by beating hosts Al Duhail of Qatar 1-0 last week.
