Egypt detected 610 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing its total infections tally to 176,943 since the outbreak last year, read a statement released by the country's Ministry of Health.

The statement also reported 49 new deaths, bringing overall fatalities from the virus to 10,250.

As many as 399 patients have been discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours, pushing the total recoveries to 136,889 the statement added.

Despite Egypt entering the second wave of the pandemic in early December, the country witnessed a decline in the daily infection rate in January before fluctuating up and down since last week.
