Art Alert: Isis dance performance by Forsan Al-Sharq Heritage Company returns to Cairo stage
The performance, which is based on the myth of Isis and Osiris, is directed and choreographed by Karima Bedeir
Isis, a performance by Forsan Al-Sharq Heritage Company (The Knights of the Orient) dance troupe, will perform Isis on 6 and 7 March at Gomhouria theatre.
Directed and choreographed by Karima Bedeir, the performance looks into the story of Isis and Osiris from Egyptian mythology.
Isis featuresYasmine Samir, Nader Gamal, Mohamed Hilal, Abdelrahman Desouki, Habiba Ibrahim, Donia Mohamed, and Basem Magdy.
The performance recently won the Jury Award at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Theatre Festival for Youth in November 2020.
Forsan Al-Sharq Heritage Company dance troupe was established in 2009, at the initiative of Farouk Hosni, the culture minister at the time, with Esmat Yehia as its first artistic director, then Walid Aouni.
The aim was to introduce Egyptian dance theatre performances that would revive gems of popular heritage, competing with troupes such as the Lebanese Caracalla Dance Theatre.
Today, Forsan Al-Sharq operates under the joint supervision of the Cultural Development Fund and the Cairo Opera House.
