Egypt reported 631 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing its total infections toll to 191,555 since the outbreak last year.

The health ministry reported 40 deaths, bringing the death toll from the virus nationwide to 11,340.

As many as 533 patients have been discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours to mark total recoveries at 147,767.

Egypt has passed the peak of the second wave of coronavirus that hit the country starting December, stated Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, the presidential advisor for health affairs, in late January.

The presidential advisor, however, said in TV statements on Saturday that Egypt is currently experiencing fluctuations in daily reported infections, adding that a third wave of infections could occur in Egypt if citizens do not commit to preventive measures.

A spike in the COVID-19 infections is expected in April but the curve will decline in May, Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed told a World Health Organization conference in February.
