The Egyptian film Curfew (Hazr Tagawel, 2020) won the Audience Award at the 11th Malmö Arab Film Festival, 6-11 April, in Malmö, Sweden.

Directed by Amir Ramses, Curfew premiered at the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) which took place in December 2020.

Leading actress Elham Shahin (Elham Shaheen) won the Best Actress Award during the CIFF, sharing the award with Natalya Pavlenkova for her role in Conference.

The plot of Curfew takes place on 14 August 2013 during a state-enforced curfew, unveiling the emotions of the characters resulting from unusual circumstances as they interact in one location.

As Ramses had revealed in an earlier interview with Ahram Online, Curfew tackles social, not political, issues.

Curfew stars Elham Shahin, Mahmoud El-Leithy, Amina Khalil, and Ahmed Magdy.

The Audience Award at the MAFF is worth 25,000 Swedish kronor, equivalent to $2,920, awarded by the municipality of Malmö.

The 11th edition of the MAFF was held as a hybrid version between the actual activities in the Swedish city and the virtual screenings and events.
