Premier League club Aston Villa announced on Monday that Egyptian winger Mahmoud "Trezeguet" Hassan will undergo a knee surgery following an injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Liverpool.

“The Egypt international winger suffered knee ligament damage in the latter stages of the Premier League encounter at Anfield,” read a statement on Aston Villa official website.

“Trezeguet, who bagged a brace in the club’s 3-1 victory over Fulham at the start of April, will now have an operation before starting his rehabilitation.

"Everyone at Aston Villa wishes Trez a full and speedy recovery!," the statement added.

The 26-year-old winger's season that has been marred by injuries is over now.

Trezeguet sustained a head injury in the beginning of the season, then a muscle strain before testing positive for COVID-19 while on international duty last November, which kept him out for a few weeks.

Trezeguet, who is now one of the Villans’ key players, participated in 22 games in the current season in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

He is also set to miss the start of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with Egypt, which will kick off in June with Angola and Libya games respectively.

Several players have shown support for the player in this tough season since the update was announced.
