The number of Egyptians who have been vaccinated against coronavirus since the launch of the vaccination campaign has reached 320,000, head of the preventive healthcare sector at the health ministry Alaa Eid said on Thursday.

In statements to Extra News TV channel, Eid revealed that some 1.23 million people have registered so far on the ministry’s website to receive vaccinations.

He added that the ministry has expanded its vaccination campaign to include aviation, tourism, industry, construction and Suez Canal navigators and guides.

Egypt has so far received over 1.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccines.

The vaccination campaign relies on the Chinese Sinopharm and the British-Swedish Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, both of which were authorised for emergency use earlier this year.

Earlier this month, Egypt received 854,400 doses of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine under COVAX.

The ministry of health also announced that it was going to manufacture the Chinese Sinovac vaccine locally through state-owned vaccine makerVacsera.

Egypt has recorded 212,961 total cases of coronavirus, including 12,570 fatalities and 161,031 recoveries.
