Ahly moved up to second in the table with 30 points, three behind leaders Zamalek, who played three games more

Ahly's two-goal hero Mohamed Sherif opted to praise his teammates rather than commend his own display as the team claimed a precious 2-1 victory over arch rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.

Two first-half goals from Sherif, who has recently established himself as Ahly's first-choice frontman, earned the depleted side a deserved Cairo derby win.

The victory came despite a growing list of absences as Ahly had to do without several regulars due to injuries.

"Ahly have 30 players who are at the same level. It is true we missed important players but those who were present proved that they can rise to any challenges," Sherif told Ahly's official website after the match.

The 25-year-old underlined the importance of the victory as Ahly moved up to second in the table with 30 points. Should they win their three rescheduled games, they will go six points clear on top.

"We haven’t won the title yet but a win against Zamalek is very important," he added.

"It will put Zamalek under a huge pressure in the coming games as we made an important step to move to the top of the league table."
