Ahram Online, , Saturday 24 Apr 2021
The submissions of films featuring the untold stories of Egypt's vibrant creative scene with a focus on design, architecture and urbanism is open until 1 May

The Film My Design (FMD) online series said it accepts submissions to its Egyptian Design Stories (EDS) programme, which will present a selection of films that feature the untold stories of Egypt's vibrant creative scene with a focus on design, architecture and urbanism and their relation with the local culture.

The selected films will be presented during the second edition of the Film My Design festival with an aim to celebrate and encourage the revival of fading traditional crafts and creative processes at the hands of contemporary practitioners, reads the FMD's press release.

"To endorse Egypt’s creative landscape at an international stage, the FMD team intends to screen the EDS films at different design events and film festivals around the world," the FMD's website clarifies.

The films can be submitted to one of the three categories of EDS: Design Focus, Architecture Focus and Urban Focus.

Each of the categories sheds light on and explores the creative practices of the designers and artists within the chosen scope.

The film can be a documentary, short film, video art, animation or a feature film, which explores any of the below themes.

The deadline for submitting the films on the EDS website is 1 May 2021.

The Film My Design online film series aims to shed light on Egyptian designers and their creative stories by providing a close and personal overview of their practice, creative process and aspirations.

The first episode on FMD was released in January 2020 featuring Fady Nagy and Omar Elkordy, self-taught craftsmen who work with wood and carpentry. More films about other designers were released in the following months.
