Contemporary retrospective: Forty years of a minister's art

Crowds of notables and celebrities flocked to Offok art gallery at the Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil museum Sunday for the inauguration of artist and culture minister Farouk Hosny’s contemporary retrospective


Once again he has gained the admiration of his fans with 35 new, abstract paintings in daring colours from 2010. The exhibition also consisted of a collection of his older paintings, such as the one he painted in 1979, during his early years in art, in order to highlight his development and skills throughout his artistic career.

Among the distinguished attendees were businessman Naguib Sawiris, the chairman of the Foreign Relations committee of the Egyptian People's Assembly Mostafa El-Fiqi, chairman of the International Dialogue for the three Heavenly Religions foundation Ali El-Saman, renowned caricaturist Mostafa Hussein, scenarist Wahid Hamed, Al-Ahram back-page editor Mona Ragab, and Al-Ahram theatre critic Amal Bakir, as well as editors-in-chief of several Egyptian magazines and newspapers.

Actors Leila Elwi, Lebleba, Samiha Ayoub, and singer Haifa Wahbi were also among the celebrities, as well as a galaxy of senior state officials and famous personalities.
