Egypt's prosecution temporarily closes the Fairmont hotel rape case due to insufficient evidence
Ahram Online , Tuesday 11 May 2021

Egypt’s Public Prosecution announced on Tuesday that it has temporarily closed the case and investigation into an alleged gang rape at a luxury Cairo hotel in 2014 known as the Fairmont hotel rape case.

The prosecution ordered the release of all the suspects – who were detained for months pending investigation.

It said it will re-open investigation if new evidence surfaces.

The five suspects faced several allegations including contributing to the gang rape of a young lady at the Fairmont Nile City Hotel in Cairo in February 2014.

The case came to surface in the summer of 2020 through an anonymous account on Instagram before the National Council of Women officially reported it to the public prosecution on behalf of the victim.
