Egypt reported 1,187 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total infection tally to 240,927 since the outbreak began in February last year.
The health ministry also reported 58 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 14,091.
The statement said that 564 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 178,805.
As of late April, Egypt’s single-day toll of coronavirus infections has been on an upward curve, with more than 1,000 cases recorded a day.
The current rise is caused by a third wave of the pandemic, a matter that led the government to release a set of new precautionary measures.
