The anticipated first edition is finally scheduled for November and is currently accepting submissions across a range of categories.

The Red Sea International Film Festival has called for submissions to its first edition, scheduled for November in the Saudi city of Jeddah, inviting filmmakers from Asia and Africa, including the Arab world.

With submissions open until mid-August, various categories have been announced with a special competition for Saudi filmmakers that includes funds for projects under development.

"The Festival exists to support a vibrant film community and is dedicated to supporting the best in global cinema," according to a statement published on the festival's official website Wednesday, adding "we are excited to encounter new talent from Saudi Arabia and the region, alongside the best in Asian, African, and Global cinema".

The first edition was initially scheduled for March 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a delay.

"Eleven program sections will showcase contemporary international and Arab cinema, Saudi features, shorts and experimental films, retrospectives, and future-oriented AR and VR experiences," added the festival listing. More details are available on the official website.
