Egypt reports 1,151 new coronavirus cases, 43 deaths on Wednesday

Egypt reported 1,151 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday bringing the total infection tally officially to 257,275 since the outbreak began in February.

The health ministry also reported 43 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 14,850.

The statement said that 876 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 188,567.

Egypt started its coronavirus vaccination campaign in late January using the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines.

Health Minister Hala Zayed said last week the country has vaccinated around 2 million citizens as the country is working to expand the vaccination campaign nationwide.

Zayed on Wednesday also announced the ministry's plan to vaccinate homebound people, through sending medical teams with the vaccine doses to their homes.
