Egypt will receive 500,000 doses of the Chinese Sinovac coronavirus vaccine on 5 June, Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Wednesday.

During the weekly cabinet meeting, Zayed revealed that Egypt will also receive a new shipment of one million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine on 13 June.

On 16 June, a shipment of 500,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine will arrive in Egypt in addition to 2,000 litres of raw materials for the local manufacturing of three million doses of Sinovac.

Egypt signed in May an agreement to start manufacturing Sinovac in state-owned Vacsera by the end of June.

Zayed said 1.9 million doses of AstraZeneca will arrive in Egypt in June through Covax.

The minister added vaccination centres nationwide have increased to 406.

Pensioners will soon be able to be vaccinated in ambulances stationed in front of ATMs and post offices, Zayed said.

Students and professors will be provided with the same service during exams in cooperation with the higher education ministry, she added.

The weekly number of infections in Egypt infections has started to decrease, Zayed noted.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly urged Egyptians to register on the health ministry’s website to be vaccinated.
