Egyptian Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki met on Monday with his Cypriot counterpart Charalambos Petrides in Egypt to discuss the latest developments in both regional and international arenas.

The pair also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern in terms of military cooperation and the exchange of experience between the two countries’ armed forces, the Egyptian military spokesman said in a statement.

Minister Zaki expressed his pride in the "strategic" partnership relations that link the Egyptian and Cypriot armed forces in various military fields.

He also stressed the significance of coordinating efforts and military cooperation between the armed forces of both countries, according to the statement.

Petrides, who arrived in Egypt earlier this week to attend the inauguration of the 3rd of July Naval Base, praised the "high" level of the Egyptian armed forces during the Qadir 2021 manoeuvre, which was executed in the newly-opened base.

He also stressed his country's keenness to support the prospects of military cooperation with Egypt during the coming period, expressing his "deep" appreciation for the efforts of the Egyptian armed forces in all fields.

On Saturday, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the 3rd of July Naval Base, the largest Egyptian naval base on the Mediterranean.
