The Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Arts Centre will open the 19th edition of the International Summer Festival on Thursday 8 July with two successive concerts for Egyptian famous indie band Massar Egbari.
The one-month programme, continuing until 7 August at various halls of the prestigious coastal venue of Alexandria, will host a variety of music concerts, theatrical performances, film screenings, as well as workshops and seminars among other activities.
Concerts will include performances of experienced pop singers like Ali El-Haggar (16 July), Medhat Saleh (24 July), and Hisham Abbas (29 July). Other nights will feature famous indie bands like Almena, Hawas (15 July), Jordanian Autostrad (17 July), Sama3i (18 July), Al-Hadra (30 July), and Al-Tanbura of Port Said (2 Aug), as well as Nouran Abu Taleb and the BA Orchestra (1 Aug), among other concerts.
Theatrical performance will include director Sherif Hamdy's 'Private Appointment' (13 July), 'For Heaven Sake, Icarus' (18 July), Ahmed Askar's ' Ibn Al-Giel' (25 July), Saeed Kabel's ' Zahab Al-lailo' (31 July-1 Aug), and Nadet Adel's ‘Hor Wi Al-Asfour’ (2-3 Aug), among other plays.
Workshops will be held throughout the festival, including sessions on percussion by Hany Bedair (9–11 July), song writing by Medhat El-Adl (14-15 July), and theatrical acting by Saeed Kabel (15-18 July).
Cinematic activities will see seminars featuring acting professor Mohamed Abdel-Hady (18 July), and interior designer Onsi Abu Seif (25 July), as well as a film screening and discussion of Mohamed Sakr's long feature 'New Year’s Eve' (1 Aug).
