Egypt aim for five or six medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics according to the President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee Hisham Hatab.
“We are close to win a medal in Karate, also we achieved good results in shooting in international tournaments recently,” Hatab told ON Time Sports TV channel on Saturday.
“We are also close to win medals in wrestling and Equestrianism, but sadly we are missing the majority of our striking force in weightlifting due to the corruption in the international federation,” he added.
Egypt soccer team qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games after winning the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations. The draw put the young Pharaohs in Group C alongside Argentina, Australia, and Spain.
The Egyptians will begin their mission by facing Spain on 22 July, then Argentina on 25 July. The third group stage match will be against Australia on 28 July.
“Egypt’s soccer team was put into a strong Group, but our team has the ability to prove its worth. We have a good coach and the team was supported by all the needed players. We are not less than Spain or Argentina,” Hatab explained.
“Handball group is also a difficult one, but we have a strong team that came seventh in the last World Cup and can compete for a medal this time,” he concluded.
