Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi followed up on Tuesday on progress in the construction of the City of Culture and Arts in New Alamein City, one of the country's new urban development projects that is projected to be a major residential and tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast.

Accompanied by a number of high-ranking officials, El-Sisi had arrived earlier today in Matrouh's New Alamein City to perform Eid Al-Adha prayers at the Malik Al-Mulk Mosque.

Following the prayers, El-Sisi was briefed by Housing Minister Assem El-Gazzar on the workflow and the construction of buildings and facilities in the new arts city, which spans over a space of 260 feddans (around 270 acres).

The arts city is set to be a cultural entertainment outlet for New Alamein and the northwestern coast, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

It boasts a wide range of artistic and cultural activities, including movie and theatre complexes, an open Roman theatre for concerts and musical performances and an opera house, in addition to exhibition grounds, Rady further said.

It also comprises a centre for developing Bedouin skills, a project that aims to preserve the heritage of Alamein, in addition to a central library and places of worship, the spokesman added.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohamed Farid accompanied the president during the event.
