Egypt’s Meteorological Authority (EMA) said on Saturday that the country has entered a heatwave with sizzling temperatures which will last for the coming few days and possibly next week.

The EMA stated that Cairo, Nile Delta, Upper Egypt, and South Sinai would witness high temperatures in the morning and moderate weather at night.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s North Coast will witness mild to hot weather this week, the EMA added.

The average temperature this week in Cairo — along with the rest of the country — will be 40 degrees Celsius, with the exception of the North Coast, which will be experiencing slightly milder weatherwith temperatures averaging around 36 degrees.

According to the EMA, the Mediterranean region is currently witnessing a huge increase in temperatures that is above average in this time of year.

Temperatures in Tunisia, South Italy, Greece, Egypt, Libya, and South Turkey have increased to 40 degrees, which has led to a massive wave of wildfires breaking out in Turkey.

This regional heatwave is expected to persist for the coming two weeks, according to the authority.
