The people, not the ruling military council, can dissolve parliament, Hussein Ibrahim says as he casts a ballot in the presidential runoff vote Alexandria
Hussein Ibrahim, majority leader of the People’s Assembly, while casting his vote at Magdi Bin Haleem School in the coastal city of Alexandria, told reporters “The People’s Assembly [the lower chamber of parliament] has not been dissolved, and the calling for our regular Tuesday meeting is still on.”
Ibrahim then added that the Brotherhood will not “give in to a coup d’état,” and that the SCAF has to respect the 30 March constitutional declaration that “gave the authority of dissolving [parliament] not to the SCAF but to the people .”
On Thursday, the high constitutional court issued a verdict which declared the Parliamentary elections law unconstitutional.
The day following the ruling, on Friday, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) ordered the management of the lower house of parliament to close its doors in line with Thursday's verdict.
