Military council member says the world will witness a huge ceremony of the inauguration of Egypt's soon-to-be-announced president

The inauguration of Egypt's president will be held by the end of the month, Major General Mahmoud El-Assar, member of the ruling military council, said in a press conference Monday afternoon.

The official results of the runoffs in the presidential elections, in which ousted president Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq stood against the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi, will be officially announced by the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission on Thursday 21 June.

Last November, against a backdrop of clashes between protesters and security forces, the SCAF announced that it will transfer power before 1 July 2012, amid concerns that the military council intends to prolong the transitional phase to 2013.

In a constitutitonal addendum released on Sunday by the SCAF, Article 30 states that the president will be sworn into office before the High Constitutional Court's General Assembly.
